Do you know my Jesus? (Phil. 1; Romans; Matt. 16:15-16)
As a follower of Christ, my life is hidden in Him meaning that if I die, I will go to live with Him in heaven. If I live, my desire is to serve Him here (“fruitful labor”) without being afraid of what might happen to me but rather being concerned with “real knowledge and all discernment” so that we are able to “approve the things that are excellent in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ” (Philippians 1:9-10). If we are hiding away in a state of fear, we are unable to demonstrate our faith in God and His provision for our lives, and we are not being “filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:11). Paul speaks these very familiar words that resonate in this time for us as Christians: “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
Maybe you are reading this and asking, “How do I know this Jesus?” Maybe you would like peace in the midst of the “viral” storm that is raging around us? If you have access to the Bible, John 1 is a great place to start reading to learn more. It begins at the very beginning of creation and explains how Jesus was present even then with God as the Word, and how Jesus is the light that shines in this dark world that cannot even begin to comprehend it. Read and learn about Him.
Romans 3:23 “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Romans 10:10 “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
Romans 10:13 “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The simple truth of the gospel is that Jesus loves us and came to die in our place for our sins because we couldn’t satisfy God in our broken state. The important question that Jesus asked His own disciples when He walked the earth was, “Who do you say that I am?” (Matt. 16:15). Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God” (Matt. 16:16). Jesus told Peter that God had blessed him with this knowledge of who He was, and my prayer for you in this time of trouble is that God will bless you with the knowledge of the One who saves us from our sin and brokenness. Do you know my Jesus?
